Firefox Extension Can Hack Your Facebook and Twitter On Any Unsecured WiFi Network

At a Cafe? Connected to an unsecured Wi-Fi network? Now, anyone can gain access to all of your social network login information whenever you connected to an unsecured Wi-Fi network. Guess what? Your Twitter or Facebook account can be hacked using a Firefox extension!

ReadWriteWeb points to his new Firefox extension which is called Firesheep and developed by Eric Butler. Here's Bulter explains how it works on his blog:

On an open wireless network, cookies are basically shouted through the air, making these attacks extremely easy
Firesheep opens a sidebar in Firefox that shows everyone who is connected to a certain unsecured WiFi network. With a single click, you can connect to most any social network using that person's user name and password.
For anyone who complains about this, TechCrunch pointed to Force-TLS as a way to protect your information from FireSheep but Bulter answers the following:
Websites have a responsibility to protect the people who depend on their services

They've been ignoring this responsibility for too long, and it's time for everyone to demand a more secure web. My hope is that Firesheep will help the users win.

Twitter CEO Ev Williams is Stepping Down to Focus On Product

Twitter is replacing CEO (Chief executive officer) and Co-Founder Ev Williams with COO (Chief operating officer) Dick Costolo, so that Williams “be completely focused on product strategy.”. We all were shocked when we saw the blog post by Williams talking about #NewTwitterCEO. Here's the blog post.

The challenges of growing an organization so quickly are numerous. Growing big is not success, in itself. Success to us means meeting our potential as a profitable company that can retain its culture and user focus while having a positive impact on the world. This is no small task. I frequently reflect on the type of focus that is required from everyone at Twitter to get us there.

This led to a realization as we launched the new Twitter. I am most satisfied while pushing product direction. Building things is my passion, and I’ve never been more excited or optimistic about what we have to build.

This is why I have decided to ask our COO, Dick Costolo, to become Twitter’s CEO. Starting today, I’ll be completely focused on product strategy.
Twitter was growing in the last two years since Williams was the CEO, he mentioned that when he started there were only 20 employees working at Twitter, today there are 300 employees. Also people were tweeting about 1.25 million tweets a day, now, about 90 million a day. Even in those same two years, Twitter grew from 3 million registered users to more than 160 million today. So, Ev Williams was really a great CEO.

Meet the New Twitter Website [Hands On]

Twitter's been trending on it's own social media website over the weekend about #NewTwitter, now, it's been revealed (at least for me). The new Twitter website is very similar to it's newly released iPad app with two-column style, the left one showing the stream and the right one providing all content, videos, images, and other content. The coolest feature in the new Twitter is embedded content, it'll now open in-line in the right column.

Of course, the biggest addition is adding pictures and videos embedded on the site, sixteen media providers are on the board including Twitpic, Youtube, Twitvid, Vimeo, Ustream, and other popular picture & video services. The search bar and settings has been given placement at the top of the site in its own header. Rollouts are selected by members not places, within weeks, everyone will get it, and also can get back to the old one (but no one would do that).

Ok, I don't want to talk a lot as the pictures and screenshots can say all what I need to say, but at least I can say, we can now give up our dedicated Twitter clients (TweetDeck, HootSuite, Echofon, etc.), Pictures below.

Two Most Requested Features, Come to New Twitter

Twitter will enrich its new web interface with some new features, today we were tipped with arrival of the most requested features which will be touchable in the New Twitter. the two features are "Reply to All" and "Auto-complete"

Reply-to-all function does exactly what you would think, so that if some names are mentioned in a tweet, your reply button will now reply to all mentioned names. If you want to remove any of the mentioned names, you have to handle this manually.

Auto-complete function allows you simply start with the '@' sign and type the first letter of any name, then it will automatically suggest you with names.
Some of these feature may be already existing on some Twitter client apps, but we can't forget the big amount of users who just use the service wia twitter.com, Any way it seems like we will surprised with tons of the new amazing features on the NewTwitter interface.

Twitter is Under Attack [WARNING], [Updatet 1x]

A new Twitter security flaw has been widely exploited on thousands of Twitter accounts, this was due to a new Javascript exploit that is currently spreading like wildfire across Twitter service. The bug is particularly nasty because it works on mouse-over only. that means pop-ups and third party website can open even if you just move your mouse over the offending link.

JavaScript function called onMouseOver is behind this flaw, which creates an event when the mouse is passed over a chunk of text. For who are using third party twitter apps, they are safe from the bug.

Update 1: Few minutes ago twitter has mentioned fixing of this bug.
We've identified and are patching a XSS attack; as always, please message @safety if you have info regarding such an exploit.

Push Notifications Coming to Twitter for iPhone This Week

According to Techcrunch, Twitter is internally testing Apple’s push notifications system on it’s official client for iPhone and iPod touch, may be for iPad too. The app is known by "Tweetie" for iPhone. As it reports, many users started to notice the generic iOS notification asking them to turn on push notifications for Twitter’s official iPhone client.

The better news is that the update is scheduled to launch sometime for public this week. Here's Techcrunch report:
Twitter is currently internally testing the feature, we’ve confirmed. Interestingly enough, we learned of its existence when the latest version of the app went out yesterday (the universal binary that included Twitter for iPad). It appears that users who have iOS 4.1 installed (which just hit Gold Master for developers, but won’t be official out until next week) get the option to enable Push Notifications for Twitter. They don’t appear to be working yet, but the feature is definitely there.
They have sent to Twitter for a comment, Twitter PR had this to say:
We’ve been testing push notifications internally. When we launched Twitter for iPad, there was a configuration error that caused us to offer push messages to a small set of users. We’ve stopped sending push messages, but users may see an option to turn on push until we release an updated version of the app. So, push isn’t ready yet but we look forward to rolling this out soon.
It's not clear if this feature coming to Twitter for iPad or not, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be added to the iPad version. Sta tuned and we will keep you informed. [via Techcrunch]

Finally, Twitter has introduced their Twitter app (known as Tweetie) for iPad. Twitter for iPad takes advantage of the iPad’s fluid touch interface, letting you move lots of information around smoothly and quickly – without needing to open and close windows or click buttons. Twitter for iPad includes four new features listed below,

Panes:
Tapping on a Tweet opens a pane to the right. Depending on the content in that Tweet, you’ll see a video or photo, or maybe a news story, or perhaps another Tweet. You can continue tapping on Tweets, opening new panes, and getting new content as long as you’d like to. And, it’s really easy to move between panes by swiping to the right or left.

Media:
When you tap a video link or open a web page with an embedded video, you can play that video inline. And, let’s be honest, video is great but sometimes it can take some time to load. The panes in Twitter for iPad let you look through your timeline while a video is loading, and then you can just swipe back to the video when it’s ready to play. You can also pinch on a video to watch it fullscreen.

Gestures:
You can pinch on a Tweet to quickly view details about the author and to take actions on a Tweet, such as reply or retweet. Put two fingers together and pull down on a Tweet to peek at the replies, showing the entire conversation leading to that Tweet.

No need to login:
You don’t even need to sign up to get started with Twitter for iPad. We’ve selected great Twitter accounts that you can see in various categories, such as Art & Design, Sports, and News. You can also search, view trends, and find breaking news. Sign up at any time to create your own timeline and start tweeting.
