NOTE: If you are using Ultrasn0w to unlock your carrier, then don't use the instructions below as the unlock for new basebands is not available yet. For iPhone 4 users, use the instructions posted here to preserve your baseband. For other devices, wait for PwnageTool to be released this weekend.

STEP 1: Download Limera1n for Mac OS X from here.

STEP 2: Connect your iPhone to your PC via USB then launch Limera1n and hit “make it ra1n”

STEP 3: You will have to get your device into DFU mode by following the steps on the screen shown by Limera1n.
  • You iPhone will now be placed in recovery mode.
  • Press both the power and the home buttons.
  • When Limera1n asks you to, release the power button.
  • Your phone will now be in DFU mode
STEP 4: You should see a message like this indicates that your devices has been jailbroken successfully.
STEP 6: Now start Limera1n app from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and install Cydia as shown in the screenshots below.

STEP 7: Now simply restart your device and enjoy the jailbreak!

Now it also runs on jailbroken iPod touch 4G, thanks to the recently released jailbreak tools as Limera1n and Greenpois0n.

You have to jailbreak your iPod touch 4G using our guides posted here to jailbreak iPhone, iPod touch and iPad using Limera1n or GreenPois0n. Then navigate to Cydia and search for “iPod Touch 4 HDR Enabler” under ModMyi repository. Once downloaded, go activate it from Winterboard app.

Download Greenpois0n to Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G on iOS 4.1 and iPad on iOS 3.2.2

After waiting for a month, the all-in-one untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.1 and iOS 3.2.2 is finally here. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux – GreenPois0n is USB-based one click app, like Blackra1n and Spirit which can jailbreak (not unlock) iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G on iOS 4.1, and iPad on iOS 3.2.2. Other devices are not supported in the tool.

Greenpois0n supports the following devices:
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch (4th Generation)
  • iPod touch (3rd Generation)
  • iPad
For those of you who don’t know, GreenPois0n is based on a low-level bootrom exploit used by Geohot in Limera1n tool which Apple won't be able to patch with a new iOS firmware; instead, they will have to introduce a new hardware for the current devices to close the loophole. That means all existing 4th-generation devices now can be jailbroken forever thanks to GreenPois0n! We will be back with quick how-to guides soon, stay tuned for that !!

UPDATE 1: How to use Greenpois0n to jailbreak:

Download GreenPois0n for Windows [Mac OS X version is not available yet]

After a bunch of good news about the ETA and Untethered status of GreenPois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.1. Here comes some bad news, unfortunately GreenPois0n will not jailbreak anything but 4th-generation devices. 4th-generation devices indicates to iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad only, nothing more.

Please remember that SHAtter and greenpoison are /only/ possible on the fourth-gen devices: iPad, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 4G.

Speed Test: iPhone 4 VS iPod touch 4G AGAIN [Video]

Two days ago, we showed you a speed test between iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G but it was focused on browsing speed. This time, we could get our hands on a more detailed speed test in a video between iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G again. You can check the speed of running various applications and games.

It seems pretty cool, right? The same is the same, no can deny this although that sometimes iPod touch wins and sometimes iPhone wins. What I can say at the end, iPod touch 4G is pretty cool and thinner! [via iSpazio]

iPhone 4 VS iPod touch 4G in a Speed Test

Guys over TechnoBuffalo has posted a video showing iPhone 4 VS iPod touch 4G in a hot speed test. As it was noticed before that iPod touch 4G don't carry the same retina display as iPhone 4, also iPod touch 4G has 256MB RAM while iPhone 4 has 512MB RAM. Will this make a big deference? Let's see.

Despite the difference between iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G's RAMs but thanks to the new A4 processor, iPod touch 4G performs well. The difference will appear when you a huge load comes over there, (say opening a lot of games / apps and using Multitasking, this will be faster in iPHone 4). Also the browser speed tests are very similar, sometimes iPod touch wins. [via iSpazio]

Wow, What a big one! iPod touch 4G has arrived for users who pre-ordered it last week when it was announced! Guess What? Pod2G our new iPhone hacker has got iPod touch 4G and his new bootrom exploit works on it. That would be great if he could really jailbreak the 4th-generation iPod touch.

Darkchoas asks him if the exploit works on iPod touch 4G:
@pod2g is this exploit valid for ipod touch 4g? just wanted to clarify ive read alot of conflicting stuff
Pod2g replies:
@Darkchaos455 yes IPod4g too

iPod Touch 4G Does NOT have Vibration, Was it a Joke?

Last week we reported you that Apple has included a vibration feature on the new iPod touch 4G as an accessibility tool for those unable to hear ring tones. But, it was interesting today in iFixit's teardown (which is in progress) that the iPod touch 4G doesn't include a motor for vibration.

More interesting thing that Apple has changed the writing on it's page, last week it was
If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you'll receive an invitation -- along with a vibrating alert -- on your iPod touch asking you to join. Simply tap Accept, and the video call begins.
It now reads:
If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you'll receive an invitation on your iPod touch asking you to join. Simply tap Accept, and the video call begins.
So, Apple is it a joke? There's no comment I can say, I will let you talk and share what you think in the comment section below.

Does iPod Touch 4G have the Same Retina Display as the iPhone 4?

From the most important things that Steve Jobs announced in his Special Media Event in San Fransisco is the iPod touch 4G with a back camera for HD video recording and front one with 960 x 640 Retina Display for E-mail based FaceTime feature that was noticed in iOS 4.1.

9to5mac noticed that the Retina Display of iPod touch 4G doesn't have the same wide angle viewing as the iPhone 4. You can see the difference between iPhone 4's screen and iPod touch 4G's screen in the video below, skip to 00:15 and you will notice that it really differs.
According to the technical specs posted on Apple.com, you will notice that “Retina Display” and “Contrast Ratio”  bits are the same as used in the iPhone 4’s Retina Display which enables the user to view the screen from tight viewing angles is missing from iPod touch 4G.
Strange that they aren’t just carbon copies of each other! So what do you think? Does the iPod touch 4G really have the same screen as iPhone 4? or it's just a simmilar version with same pixels but not the same contrast ratio?

New Rumors of Square iPod Touch 4G Next Week With 3G Access, Also iLife on the Table

AppleInsider brings new claims of a redesigned iPod Nano launching at next week's media event,  with a smaller square design. The reports claims to the possibility offering 3G cellular data access in the new iPod nano. With today's report, rumors of a major update to iLife and all of its applications on the table.

People familiar with the matter indicated that the size and shape of the device, revealed this week through photos of third-party cases, will be more akin to the iPod shuffle than the current-generation iPod nano. Even with this small size, however, it is expected to have a traditional iPod dock connector, allowing compatibility with the existing iPod accessory ecosystem.

The new iPod nano is said to utilize a tiny 3cm-by-3cm display that was revealed in its bare form as unknown Apple-branded component earlier this summer. For comparison, the second-generation iPod nano had a screen that was about 3cm by 2.5cm.
From the report above, the new iPod touch 4G is said to be tiny 3cm x 3cm display, in brief a smaller square design. Some reports from July claims of "iLife '11" major update in August with a mystery application, Also today's report claims to this major update in the next media event on Wednesday (September 1st).
Finally, people who have an ear in on Apple plans say there was some talk a few months ago about dedicating some time at next week's media event to a new version of its iLife software suite. Rumors of an update to iLife have persisted for most of the year, but so far an updated version of the software suite has failed to materialize. Like the rumors of a 3G option for new iPod touches, however, this bit of information cannot be confirmed at this time with certainty.
